North Carolina Bar Exam Format
The North Carolina bar exam takes two days and consists of the North Carolina Essays and the Multistate Bar Exam (“MBE”). North Carolina law is tested on the North Carolina bar exam.

North Carolina tests 12 North Carolina essays. Essays are 30-minutes each. Subjects may include:

MBE (Multiple Choice)
North Carolina uses the standard MBE. Subjects include:

MBE Score Transfer
North Carolina does not accept MBE scores transferred from other jurisdictions.
North Carolina Bar Exam Testing Schedule
Day 1
Morning – 6 Essays (3 hours)
Afternoon – 6 Essays (3 hours)
Day 2
Morning – MBE Part I (100 questions; 3 hours)
Afternoon – MBE Part II (100 questions; 3 hours)
North Carolina Bar Exam Dates and Application
The North Carolina bar exam is held twice each year on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. Applications can be found on the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners Website.
Grading
The passing score is 350 points. Essay questions will not be re-graded after the results are released.
