The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE” ) is an ethics exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (“NCBE” ) and not by the state of Maine. The MPRE is administered separately from the Maine bar exam and is generally tested three times each year in March, August, and November.
Please visit the Ethics Exam/MPRE page for general information about the MPRE and the MPRE application process.
Maine requires an MPRE scaled score of 80 or greater prior to being eligible for admission. There is no time limit for transferring a passing MPRE score to Maine, but a passing score is required prior to admission.
Attorneys seeking to take the Maine Attorneys’ Exam or be admitted through Maine’s Admission on Motion procedure must pass the MPRE with a score of 80 or greater prior to the application for admission.
Maine accepts MPRE scaled scores that were achieved in another jurisdiction.
