Oklahoma Miscellaneous Admission

Temporary Permit

Rule Nine of the Oklahoma Rules Governing Admission to the Practice of Law allows attorneys to obtain a temporary permit to practice law until the conclusion of the next succeeding bar exam and the reporting of the bar exam results.

Applicants must demonstrate a showing of public convenience and necessity or a case of extreme hardship in the private sector. Applicants must have taken and passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”).

Attorneys must submit an Application for a temporary permit with the Board of Bar Examiners in addition to the regular application for admission to the bar exam. The Board, as soon as practicable, will report its recommendation on the application to the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

The temporary permit of any person who takes the bar exam expires on the date that the successful applicant is sworn in. The temporary permit of any person who fails the bar exam is revoked effective immediately upon the announcement of the results of the bar exam.
