The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”) is an ethics exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (“NCBE”) and not by the state of New Mexico. The MPRE is administered separately from the New Mexico bar exam and is generally tested three times each year in March, August, and November.
Please visit the Ethics Exam/MPRE page for general information about the MPRE and the MPRE application process.
New Mexico requires an MPRE scaled score of 80 or greater as of September 11, 2011. Under the current rules, the Board will accept scaled scores of 80 or greater regardless of when the applicant took the MPRE exam. Applicants must pass the MPRE within one year after the date of notification that the applicant has passed the essay and MBE parts of the New Mexico bar exam. The notification date is the date the notification is mailed by the secretary of the board. (Rule 15-205(E)).
New Mexico accepts MPRE scaled scores of 80 or greater that were achieved in another jurisdiction. Please visit the New Mexico Board of Bar Examines’ Website for more information.
