Ohio Government Attorneys

Attorneys employed by or associated with a public defender program that provides legal services solely to indigents may obtain limited admission in Ohio as part of the Ohio Legal Services Organizations Rules.

Ohio’s Multijurisdictional Practice Rules (MJP) require registration pursuant to the Ohio House Counsel Rules. The house counsel rules explicitly exclude government attorneys. Therefore, the house counsel and MJP rules do not exempt government attorneys from the unauthorized practice of law in Ohio as the rules may allow in other jurisdictions.
