West Virginia Bar Exam

West Virginia Bar Exam Format

The West Virginia bar exam is currently the legacy Uniform Bar Exam (“UBE”) (adopted July 2017): two MPTs, six MEE essays, and the MBE. West Virginia plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2027 (legacy through February 2027). Confirm current rules with the Board and NCBE.

MBE Score Transfer
West Virginia accepts a transferred MBE score within 13 months for an essay-only sitting path if the applicant passed the full exam in the source jurisdiction (non-portable West Virginia-only score).

UBE Score Transfer
West Virginia accepts a portable legacy UBE score of 270 or greater, or NextGen UBE 620 or greater, earned within three years. NextGen transfers are accepted from July 2026 administrations.
