Georgia Pro Bono

Georgia amended Rule 1-202(d) of the Rules and Regulation of the State Bar of Georgia allowing Emeritus Attorney Status.

Eligibility
Attorneys must be at least 70 years old and have been admitted to the practice of law for 25 years. Five of those years must be as a member in good standing in Georgia.

Practice
Emeritus attorneys are not required to pay dues or annual fees. Emeritus attorneys cannot practice law except he or she may handle pro bono cases referred by either an organized pro bno program recognized by the Georgia State Bar Pro Bono Project or a non-profit corporation that delivers legal services to the poor.

Emeritus attorneys may return to active or inactive status upon payment of non-prorated dues for the year he or she returns to such status.
