New York Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE)
The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”) is an ethics exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (“NCBE”) and not by the state of New York. The MPRE is administered separately from the New York bar exam and is generally tested three times each year in March, August, and November.

MPRE for New York
New York requires an MPRE scaled score of 85 or greater prior to being certified by the Board of the Appellate Division. The MPRE exam may be taken before or after the New York bar exam. Applicants must pass the MPRE within three years before or three years after passing the New York bar exam, which is measured by the MPRE and New York bar exam dates. Applicants with passing MPRE scores that are older than three years must retake the MPRE. Applicants may take the MPRE an unlimited amount of times. (Board of Law Examiners Rules, 6000.6; Rules of the Court, 520.9).
There is no MPRE requirement for New York Admission on Motion.

New York accepts MPRE scaled scores that were achieved in another jurisdiction.
