The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE” ) is an ethics exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (“NCBE” ) and not by the state of Alabama. The MPRE is administered separately from the Alabama bar exam and is generally tested three times each year in March, August, and November.

MPRE for Alabama
Alabama requires an MPRE scaled score of 75 or greater prior to admission to the Alabama Bar. Alabama accepts MPRE passing scores achieved within a 12-month period before the bar exam. For applicants that fail the bar exam but have passed the MPRE, the MPRE scores may be carried over for a period of 25 months from the time the first bar exam is taken. For applicants that pass the bar exam but have not successfully completed the MPRE requirement, the applicant has a period of 25 months from the date of the bar exam to successfully complete the MPRE. (Rules Governing Admission to the Alabama Bar, Rule VI(B)(E)). Attorney seeking admission based on a UBE score transfer must haved passed the MPRE no earlier than 12 months before when the UBE was taken in the transferring jurisdiction. Attorneys seeking Alabama Admission on Motion must pass the MPRE with a scaled score of 75 or greater.
