California Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE)

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”) is an ethics exam developed by NCBE and administered separately from the California bar exam at Pearson VUE testing centers. The MPRE is generally offered three times each year (March, August, and November).

MPRE for California

California requires an MPRE scaled score of 86 or greater prior to admission. Confirm current timing rules with the California admissions office and NCBE.

Attorneys seeking California Admission on Motion must meet the MPRE requirement unless a published exception applies.

California MPRE Scoring Reciprocity/Transfer

California accepts MPRE scaled scores achieved in another jurisdiction when reported through NCBE score services. Request an additional score report for California through NCBE.
