Minnesota House Counsel

Minnesota Rule 10 (permanent house counsel license) and Rule 9 (temporary 12-month house counsel license) govern out-of-state lawyers employed as house counsel in Minnesota. Confirm current forms with the Minnesota BLE.

Eligibility
Rule 10 applicants generally must meet general admission requirements, be licensed elsewhere, be in good standing, show 36 of 60 months of practice, and provide an employer affidavit verifying house-counsel employment.

Practice
The license authorizes practice solely for the designated employer (with a limited pro bono exception). The license expires when employment ends. See also Minnesota MJP and pro hac vice.
