South Carolina Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE)

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”) is an ethics exam administered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (“NCBE”) and not by the state of South Carolina. The MPRE is administered separately from the South Carolina bar exam and is generally tested three times each year in March, August, and November.

Please visit the Ethics Exam/MPRE page for general information about the MPRE and the MPRE application process.

MPRE for South Carolina

South Carolina requires an MPRE scaled score of 77 or greater. If the score was achieved prior to filing the application, the MPRE exam must have been taken within four years of the application date. Applications for admission may be filed without proof of completing the MPRE requirement, but the Board warns applicants that failing to submit proof of the MPRE requirement in a timely manner can significantly delay admission and are not eligible for a special admissions ceremony. (SCACR, Rule 402(c)(6)).

South Carolina MPRE Scoring Reciprocity/Transfer

South Carolina accepts MPRE scaled scores that were achieved in another jurisdiction.
