Texas House Counsel
Texas does not require out-of-state in-house counsel to register with the State Bar. Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 5.05(c) (effective October 2024) permits lawyers admitted elsewhere to provide legal services solely to the lawyer’s employer or its organizational affiliates when pro hac vice admission is not required.
Limits
Lawyers may not hold out as admitted in Texas. Court appearances are governed by Texas Board of Law Examiners pro hac vice rules. See also Texas MJP.
