Certain government attorneys may be temporarily admitted through Alaska’s “10-Month Rule” (Alaska Statute 08.08.210). Attorneys must be employed by the Department of Law, Public Defender Agency, or the Office of Public Advocacy.
The applicant is required to provide a letter from a senior staff member or supervising attorney who can verify the applicant will be working under Rule 08.08.210. When this letter is received, a non-attorney number will be issued.
Eligible attorneys have 10-months following the commencement of their employment to obtain an Alaska law license.
In addition, a person employed by, or under contract with, the legislature is not engaged in the unauthorized practice of law until the results are released of the third Alaska bar exam following the person’s employment.
