Hawaii Pro Hac Vice

Rule 1.9 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii provides the rule regarding admission for attorneys licensed in other jurisdictions who are seeking pro hac vice admission.

Eligibility
Attorneys licensed to practice law in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia who are not residents of Hawaii may be permitted to associate with a member of the Hawaii Bar in order to present a specific case. The presiding judge has the discretion whether or not to admit an attorney pro hac vice.

Practice
Attorneys appearing pro hac vice must pay the Hawaii State Bar an annual Disciplinary Board fee for each year the pro hac vice order is effect. Attorneys are only required to pay one fee if he or she is allowed to appear in more than one case.

Application
Attorneys are required to provide proof of payment of the required fee in the record within 10 days after the entry of the pro hac vice order as well as in January of each subsequent year in which the case is pending. Failure to do so voids the order allowing pro hac vice admission.
