Georgia House Counsel

Georgia does not maintain a separate authorized-house-counsel registration. Out-of-state “Domestic Lawyers” who practice exclusively for an employer generally rely on Georgia Rule of Professional Conduct 5.5(d)(1).

Under Rule 5.5(d)(1), a Domestic Lawyer who is not disbarred or suspended may provide legal services in Georgia to the lawyer’s employer or its organizational affiliates when the services do not require pro hac vice admission. Personal legal services to officers or employees are not authorized. Maintain an active license in at least one other U.S. jurisdiction; Georgia does not currently require separate in-house registration for this safe harbor.
