Michigan House Counsel
Michigan Board of Law Examiners Rule 5(D) allows eligible out-of-state lawyers who practice in an institutional setting (including in-house counsel) to obtain a special certificate limiting practice to the employing organization. Confirm current forms and fees with BLE Admissions.
Eligibility
Applicants generally must meet character and fitness standards, be licensed in a U.S. jurisdiction, intend to maintain a Michigan office, and practice solely for the qualifying employer (or comparable institutional role).
Practice and compliance
The special certificate expires when qualifying employment ends; attorneys may reapply if new employment qualifies. Admission occurs by circuit-court order after BLE certification. See also Michigan MJP and pro hac vice.
