Connecticut Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE)

The Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (“MPRE”) is an ethics exam developed by NCBE and administered separately from the Connecticut bar exam at Pearson VUE testing centers. The MPRE is generally offered three times each year (March, August, and November).

MPRE for Connecticut

Connecticut requires an MPRE scaled score of 80 or greater prior to admission. Confirm current timing rules with the Connecticut admissions office and NCBE.

As an alternative to the MPRE, Connecticut accepts a grade of at least “Pass” or “C” in a for-credit law school course devoted entirely to professional responsibility/legal ethics (not a component course or CLE). The MPRE or qualifying course must be completed within four years before or one year after filing for admission.

Attorneys seeking Connecticut Admission on Motion must meet the MPRE requirement unless a published exception applies.

Connecticut MPRE Scoring Reciprocity/Transfer

Connecticut accepts MPRE scaled scores achieved in another jurisdiction when reported through NCBE score services. Request an additional score report for Connecticut through NCBE.
