Florida Bar Exam Format
The Florida bar exam is a non-UBE exam. It has two parts: Part A (Florida essays and Florida multiple-choice) and Part B (the Multistate Bar Exam (“MBE”)). Florida plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2028, with a Florida law component (format TBA). Florida will accept NextGen portable scores from July 2028 administrations forward (not earlier NextGen sittings); cut score TBA. Confirm current rules with the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and NCBE.
Part A (Florida)
Florida-drafted essays and Florida multiple-choice questions covering Florida law subjects published by the Board.
Part B (MBE)
The standard MBE.
MBE Score Transfer
Florida accepts a transferred MBE scaled score of 136 or greater, subject to timing and other rules (generally within 25 months in connection with passing Part A and the MPRE). Confirm Rules 4-18.1 / 4-26.2 with the Board.
UBE Score Transfer
Florida does not accept legacy portable UBE scores.
Florida Bar Exam Dates and Application
The exam is offered in February and July. Applications, fees, and deadlines are on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners site.
Grading
Passing Score
Applicants generally must achieve a scaled score of 136 under the Board’s Part A / overall averaging methods. Confirm the current pass methodology in the Board’s published rules.
Retaking the Florida Bar Exam
Unsuccessful applicants may reapply. Florida does not offer admission on motion. Confirm attempt limits and score-carry rules with the Board.
