Iowa Bar Exam Format
The Iowa bar exam is currently the legacy Uniform Bar Exam (“UBE”): two MPTs, six MEE essays, and the MBE. Iowa plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2027 (legacy through February 2027). Confirm current rules with the Office of Professional Regulation and NCBE.

MBE Score Transfer
Iowa does not accept MBE scores transferred from other jurisdictions.
UBE Score Transfer
Iowa accepts portable UBE scores meeting the applicable cut score within two years, or within five years if the applicant practiced at least two of the prior three years. For exams / transfers from July 2026 forward, the minimum is 260 (legacy scores before July 2026 generally needed 266). NextGen transfers are accepted from July 2026 at a minimum of 610.
