Tennessee Bar Exam Format

The Tennessee bar exam is currently the legacy Uniform Bar Exam (“UBE”) (adopted February 2019): two MPTs, six MEE essays, and the MBE. Applicants must complete the Tennessee Law Course before admission. Tennessee plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning July 2027 (legacy through February 2027). Confirm current rules with the Board and NCBE.

MBE Score Transfer
Tennessee does not accept MBE scores transferred from other jurisdictions.

UBE Score Transfer
Tennessee accepts a portable legacy UBE score of 270 or greater, generally within three years (some paths allow up to five years). NextGen transfer rules and cut score TBA.

Retaking the Tennessee Bar Exam
