Virginia House Counsel
Virginia Rule 1A:5 requires in-house lawyers employed exclusively for a qualifying Virginia employer to be (i) a Virginia State Bar member, (ii) issued a Corporate Counsel Certificate (Part I), or (iii) registered as a Corporate Counsel Registrant (Part II). Confirm current forms with the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners or VSB.
Practice
Certificate and registration paths limit practice to the employer and subject the lawyer to Virginia RPC and disciplinary authority. Court appearances require pro hac vice or Virginia admission. See also Virginia MJP.
