Delaware Bar Exam Format
The Delaware bar exam is a non-UBE exam. It consists of two Multistate Performance Tests (“MPT”), four Delaware-drafted essays, and the Multistate Bar Exam (“MBE”). Delaware does not offer portable UBE score admission. Delaware plans to administer the NextGen UBE beginning February 2028 (with a Delaware law component; details TBA). Confirm current rules with the Board of Bar Examiners and NCBE.
Delaware Essays
Four Delaware essays testing Delaware-specific subjects (entities, procedure, and other topics published by the Board).
MPT / MBE
Two MPTs and the standard MBE.
MBE / UBE Score Transfer
Delaware does not accept transferred MBE scores or portable UBE scores.
Delaware Bar Exam Dates and Application
Delaware offers February and July sittings. Applications, fees, and deadlines are on the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners site.
Grading
Weight
Written component and MBE are each weighted 50%.
Passing Score
The minimum combined scaled score is 143 out of 200 (lowered from 145). Confirm current grading details with the Board.
Retaking the Delaware Bar Exam
Unsuccessful applicants may reapply for a later administration. Confirm attempt limits with the Board. Delaware does not offer admission on motion.
