Louisiana Multijurisdictional Practice (MJP)

Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct and Supreme Court admission rules (including Rule XVII limited licenses) address unauthorized and multijurisdictional practice. See the MJP hub for general background.

Out-of-state lawyers generally may not establish a systematic and continuous Louisiana practice or hold out as Louisiana-admitted except as authorized by court rule or other law.

Temporary practice

Temporary services may be permitted under Louisiana RPC 5.5(c) when requirements are met. Court appearances remain subject to pro hac vice and Louisiana’s civil-law procedural rules.
