Missouri House Counsel

Missouri Supreme Court Rule 8.105 permits limited admission for lawyers licensed elsewhere who are employed in Missouri exclusively as in-house counsel for a qualifying corporation, association, business, or government entity. Confirm current forms and fees with the Missouri BLE.

Eligibility
Applicants generally must be admitted elsewhere, hold an ABA-approved law degree, meet character requirements, and not have failed the Missouri bar within five years (subject to practice-duration exceptions in the rule).

Practice and compliance
The license authorizes practice exclusively for the qualifying employer plus approved pro bono work. Time under Rule 8.105 does not count toward admission-on-motion practice requirements. The license terminates when employment ends but may be reinstated if new qualifying employment begins immediately and the Supreme Court clerk is notified. See also Missouri MJP and pro hac vice.
