New York House Counsel
New York Court of Appeals 22 NYCRR Part 522 requires registration of attorneys not admitted in New York who are employed in New York as in-house counsel for a qualifying organization. Failure to register is professional misconduct under Part 522. Confirm current forms with the Appellate Division department where registration is filed.
Eligibility and practice
Registrants must be admitted and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction that reciprocally permits New York lawyers to register as in-house counsel there (where applicable). Registration permits legal services for the employer and its affiliates on employer-related matters; it is not full New York bar admission. Court appearances require pro hac vice or admission.
