New York Multijurisdictional Practice (MJP)
New York Rules of Professional Conduct (22 NYCRR Part 1200) and Rule 8.5 address unauthorized and multijurisdictional practice. See the MJP hub for general background.
New York Rule 5.5 generally tracks ABA Model Rule 5.5. In-house counsel employed in New York must register under 22 NYCRR Part 522 rather than relying solely on RPC 5.5(d)(1).
Temporary practice
Temporary services under Rule 5.5(c) may be permitted when requirements are met. Court appearances remain subject to pro hac vice.
